National Day of Prayer Local Event on May 1
CARMEL, Ind., February 1, 2025 – All are cordially invited to attend the National Day of Prayer annual prayer observance on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 12-1 p.m. at the Carmel City Hall. The area gathering meets in the City Council Chambers on the second floor, located at 1 Civic Square, Carmel, IN, 46032.
The theme for 2025 is “Pour Out to the God of Hope and Be Filled,” and is based on Romans 15:13.
The local event is a part of the National Day of Prayer observance held on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Events will be held in all 50 states and U.S. territories. The gathering will include an appearance by Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam and will feature the children’s choir from Coram Deo Academy in Carmel, Indiana.
National days of prayer have been a part of our nation’s history since 1775 when the Continental Congress called for the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation. In 1988, during President Ronald Regan’s term, Congress amended the law (set in 1952 by Congress and signed by President Harry S. Truman) and designated the first Thursday of May as the annual National Day of Prayer.
Carmel NDP Chair David Forbes looks forward to the observance every year. “It is just exciting that we can gather together as believers and humbly ask God for help,” he said. “There are needs in our country ... and we can encourage one another as we pray together.”

I have scheduled the event to take place downtown Greensburg. It will be held at The Branch Coffee Shop – Community Gathering Center, 113 Broadway Street. It will be held in the large room at the back of the building. I am planning 3 different gatherings that will allow more working people to attend to accommodate their working hours. It will be held Thursday, May 1st.
The morning gathering will be from 7:15 to 8:30 AM. Afternoon gathering will be from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Evening gathering will be from 6:00 – 7:30 PM. Gatherings shouldn’t last for over an hour but I’m allowing extra time if people would like to pray a little bit longer in silent meditation.
I encourage everyone attend even if they can't meet at the gathering time to come and pray. Coffee and water will be provided at tables in the main gathering area. Sandwiches and desserts will be provided in another room to afford lunch for those that come during their lunch and dinner hours. That way it will not distract from prayer time. Should you feel you need to leave during the event we only ask you would do so quietly as to not disturb the proceedings.
Parking will be available at the back of the building as well as First Baptist Church lot. I will check to see if First National Bank will allow is to park there in case of overflow. We are anticipating 150 per gathering and 500 total during the day.
All evangelical churches in our community are supportive of this event providing resources of personnel and materials as needed. We ask everyone to start praying immediately that the Holy Spirit will use this event for the glory of the Father and our nation! All are welcome to attend!
In our 2025 National Day of Prayer gathering in Greenwood, we will pray for our cities, state, nation, and world. We'll be praying against violence, crime, addiction, drug trafficking, gang activity, hopelessness, and suicide. We'll pray for our children, families, law enforcement, veterans, and people experiencing homelessness. We will pray for Israel, and we'll also pray for seven areas of influence in our nation: churches, education, families, business, media, military, and government.
The National Day of Prayer is a reminder that we must seek God to see many vital changes needed in our nation. Past great awakenings and great revivals that literally changed the culture and spiritual climate of cities always had as their foundation repentance and much, much prayer. This is needed again now.
